West Haven football player passes away

A West Haven High School football player passed away five days before the program plays in its first state title game in 20 years.

Christopher Fidalgo-Pugh, a sophomore lineman apparently had a medical emergency and passed away on Tuesday morning. School principal Dana Paredes released a statement on behalf of the school.

“This news has deeply impacted our school community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. He was not only an integral part of our school’s athletic community but also a bright and cherished member of our student body. “The loss of such a promising young life is profoundly felt by us all.”

According to CT Insider’s Sean Patrick Bowley, West Haven Coach Rich Boshea and his staff found out yesterday morning and shared the news at the annual state championship media luncheon yesterday. There was a moment of silence for the young man at the luncheon as well.

The story also mentioned that the young man last dressed for the Fairfield Prep game but was not present for West Haven’s two playoff games.

Having coached for almost 30 years, there is no easy way to deal with situations like this. We wish the West Haven Football program the best of luck. Our thoughts go out to the West Haven community.
