It was a rough weekend for the majority of New England’s college programs.
UMass shocked the world Thursday, UConn rolled in Jason Candle’s first game and Stonehill earned an important win over New Haven on Saturday (stories on the site), but it was ugly for the other teams in action.
Here’s what you may have missed:
Temple 38, No. 8 URI 14
The two-time defending CAA champs had a tough go of it in Philly against an FBS opponent in Temple.
Tyler Budge once again started at QB for the injured Devin Farrell, going 18-31 with 195 yards a touchdown and two interceptions. He also added 38 yards and a rushing TD on nine carries. Brendon Barrow had 11 carries for 39 yards. After a slow start against Merrimack, Marquis Buchanan had a monster day with 10 catches for 137 yards and a score.
URI kept it close early, trailing 10-7 after one and 24-14 at halftime, but the Rams were shutout in the second half despite only giving up a TD in the third and fourth quarters.

Colgate 35, Holy Cross 10
It was a bit of deja vu for Crusaders fans on Saturday.
