Kickoff: The Huskies and Panthers will be meeting for just the second time on Friday night. Georgia State won the first meeting last fall, a 35-14 in Atlanta.
Here are four keys to the game for the Huskies.
1st Down: Evers needs to turn things around: Quarterback Nick Evers has struggled of late. He needs to start playing better and make more plays in the passing game. The Huskies need more balance in the offense.
2nd Down: Stop the run: Georgia State rushed for 250 yards in last season’s meeting, specifically quarterback Darren Grainger who ran for 142 yards. The Huskies front seven needs to control the line of scrimmage and get Georgia State into long down situations.
3rd Down: Offense needs to be consistent: The offense needs to be more consistent. It has been frustrating the past two weeks with the offense getting off to slow starts. They cannot do it again.
4th Down: Finish strong: The Huskies are playing their last home game of the season at the Rent. Finish strong! Get the win and become bowl eligible.
Extra Point: The Panthers last win came back on September 14, a 36-32 win over Vanderbilt at home. The Commodores have been pretty good this season. Don’t take the Panthers lightly.
Final Drive: This is a winnable game for UConn but the Huskies need to get off to a good start offensively. If they do, they should be in good shape to win this game. It is a game they need to have.
