Tucker McDonald is returning to UConn after briefly entering the transfer portal at the end of December. I spoke with McDonald last night and asked him why he made the decision to return to Storrs.
“I decided to go back to UConn after talking with the new coaching staff. Their plans for the future of this program, it was something that I wanted to be apart of.”
New Huskies Head Coach Jason Candle has already started the process of reshaping the roster after several players departed in the portal after his hiring. The quarterback room in particular was hit hard with Joe Fagnano graduating and Nick Evers and Ksaan Farrar hitting the portal along with McDonald.
Now McDonald is back and he along with Toledo transfer Kalieb Osborne and in coming freshmen Bo Polston give the Huskies a strong foundation in the quarterback room. McDonald says he will have an opportunity to compete for the starting job.
“As far as the quarterback job, there is going to be a healthy competition between a few guys that will make the entire room better.”
The Huskies still have a lot of work to do on the roster but getting McDonald back not helps from a talent perspective, but a leadership perspective as well.
