Davis started his career at Temple and then transferred to Vanderbilt where he rushed for 1,042 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2022. Davis transferred again, this time to Kentucky for the 2023 season. He rushed for a career high 1,129 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 33 passes for 323 yards and a team leading 7 touchdown receptions.

Davis was a Second Team All-SEC performer for the Wildcats in 2023.

Here is my scouting report on Ray Davis.

Ray Davis, RB, 5-8 211, Kentucky

Inside Runner: Attacks the hole. Does a good job of sticking his football in the ground and getting vertical on cuts. Runs with good power and he will put his pads down and run through contact. Compact runner who can be a load to handle at the contact point for defenders.

Outside Runner: Shows some quickness to the outside and he has good enough footwork to jump the alley and get upfield. He is a little bit of a lateral runner and lacks the second gear in space to make big plays runs on outside zone.

Elusive Runner: Davis has some suddenness to him in space against defenders but won’t make people miss. Prefers to run them over with his low to the ground style.

Power Runner: Runs tight and compact with good power. Breaks tackles on contact and has shown the ability to fall forward in short yardage situations and get first downs.

Blocker: Needs work in this area. Gives max effort and moves well enough laterally but lacks the requisite arm length to maintain separation with defenders.

Hands/Routes: Terrific. One of the top three receiving backs in this class. Runs good running backs routes, has clean hands and can make defenders miss in space. Davis has the pass catching attributes of your classic third down back.

Durability: Tough. Can handle a workload. Had 746 career carries. Davis can play all three downs.

Running Style: A one cut slasher who is low to the ground and runs with some power.

Final Report: Davis has some tread on the tires but he could be a nice complementary back in a time share and play mostly on second and third and long situations. I see a little Kevin Faulk in his game. He has met with the Patriots this off-season.

Draft Range: 3rd-5th Round
