Sanders amassed 1,295 yards and scored seven touchdowns in his career. He was First Team All-Big 12 this past season.
JaTavion Sanders, TE, 6-3 245, Texas
Hands: Strong hands. Catches the ball with ease and has a wide catch radius. Doesn’t fight the ball. Can go up and get it at the highest point. Can dig out low balls.
Patterns: Good route runner. Drops his hips and snaps into his breaks. Can separate at the top of routes and runs a full route tree. Stacks slot defenders on seam routes routinely.
Receive Long & Short: Sanders has big play potential as a detached tight end. Can work the middle of the field and create match-ups, especially versus undersized slot defenders. Has big play potential in the red zone. A drive finisher.
Run After Catch: Sanders has some separation speed and YAC potential. Dominates linebackers and safeties one on one. Can also make big plays lined up on the line.
Blocker: Competitive but needs to get stronger. Uses good fundamentals and gets inside hand placement. Not an in-line player. Better suited to block in space.
Release: Sanders struggles at times to get off press coverage as an in line player but when detached, he can create separation at the line and get into his route. Needs to use a more whole body approach to getting open at the line.
React to Ball/Crowd: Sanders can work the middle of the field and compete in tight quarters. Attacks the ball in the middle of the field and makes it his. Plays tougher than his size in a crowd.
Initial Quicks: Sanders has some twitch to his game. Once he releases, he has a second gear where he can make up ground in his routes.
Final Report: Sanders is your classic move U tight end who can generate match ups in the middle of the field. He would be a nice complement to Hunter Henry and the Patriots current skill group. He would give them the match up piece they lack. The Patriots have met with him.
Draft Range: 2nd-4th Round
