Top 5 match-ups to watch in the Jets, Patriots game

Old school match up today inside between Ben Brown and Quinnen Williams

The Patriots host the New York Jets today in a game that has big implications for both teams. For the Jets, they need to win to keep their season relevant. For the Patriots, they want to avoid getting swept by the Jets for the first time since 2000.

Here are five match ups to keep an eye on.

Garrett Wilson vs. Christian Gonzalez: Despite adding DeVante Adams, Wilson is still Rodgers primary big play target. The Jets will challenge the Patriots vertically today and when they do, Wilson will be the primary target. Gonzalez has struggled of late. He needs a bounce back game.

Quinnen Williams vs. Ben Brown: Patriots center Ben Brown has been good for the Patriots since being inserted into the starting line-up. He will have his hands full today against the talented Williams who is one of the best interior defensive lineman in the game. He is a game wrecker who changes the complexion of a game plan. Brown must anchor down and hold up today.

DeVante Adams vs. Jonathan Jones: Key match up today. Adam’s has another week under his belt in the Jets offense. Rodgers will look to him a lot today. Jonathan Jones will line up to his side primarily. When he does, he needs to hold up, especially in man coverage. The Patriots will need to play a lot of man-free today if they want to stop the run. The corners need to hold up outside.

Breece Hall vs. Patriots front seven: The Patriots will be in a lot of eight man and nine man fronts on early downs today. They will have to insert the safeties in run support a lot because they will get a heavy dose of Breece Hall. The Dolphins, Texans and Jaguars posted rushing totals of 193, 192 and 171 yards, respectively the past three games. Jacksonville embarrassed the Patriots last week by running the ball on 17 consecutive plays. You better believe the Jets will do the same thing.

Patriots OT’s vs. Jets edge rushers: Haasan Reddick is back and he and Will McDonsld together is a scary combination. The Patriots offensive tackles will once again have their hands full like they did in week three. They must hold up on the outside. They will need some help from the tight ends and backs in pass protection.
