Top 5 matchups to watch in the Patriots-Jets game

The Patriots hit the road this week to take on the New York Jets in a pivotal Week 17 match up against the Jets.

New England needs this game but they will be without seven starters so the Patriots depth will be tested. They will need guts to step up if they are going to win this game.

Here are five match-ups to keep an eye on in this game.

Christian Gonzalez vs. AD Mitchell: Mitchell has been good for the Jets since being acquired in the Sauce Gardner trade. He has been the Jets most consistent receiver and the number one option in the passing game. Expect Gonzalez to be on him a lot in this game as the Patriots try to match up against him and take him away.

Patriots secondary vs. Brady Cook: Cook has struggled in his first two career starts. He tends to hold onto the ball and tries to force it in areas that he shouldn’t. If the Patriots can get consistent pressure on him, they should be in good shape. It is easier said than done as the Patriots pass rush has been non-existent in recent weeks.

K’Lavon Chaisson vs. Ola Fashanu: The Patriots are going to need Chaisson to step up and provide that much needed pass rush. It will not be easy against Fashanu who is long, athletic and can match Chaisson physically. Chaisson has been impactful all season long. He will need to be the Patriots best defensive player in this game.

Morgan Moses vs. Jermaine Johnson: Moses is banged up after tweaking his knee last week against the Ravens. He will have to hold up against the compact and explosive Johnson. Johnson can be problematic for a lengthy tackle like Moses because of his stature and get off on the snap. Moses will be challenged throughout the game and he needs to rise to the occasion.

Patriots TE’s vs. Jets safeties: Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper will be featured heavily in this game. They will get a lot of targets. How they play and produce against the Jets safeties will determine whether or not the Patriots win this game. Both veterans need to be reliable, go to targets for Drake Maye.
