The Patriots hit the road this week to take on one of the best teams in the NFC, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa poses some tough match ups. Particularly along the offensive and defensive lines. As usual, the Patriots will have to win one on one’s, especially up front if they want to win this game.
Garrett Bradbury vs. Vita Vea: Vea is a load and he will be a problem Bradbury one on one inside, especially when the Patriots want to run the football. The Patriots will need to double Vea as much as possible and get movement on him. If they cannot, he will wreck the Patriots offensive plan just like he does against other teams.
Christian Gonzalez vs. Emeka Egbuka: The rookie wide receiver has been sensational thus far. Egbuka can line up outside, in the slot and at flanker. The Patriots will need to match up Christian Gonzalez on him as much as possible depending on down and distance and field position, Gonzalez has the size to match up and be physical with him. Re-routing Egbuka and getting him off rhythm with Baker Mayfield will be key today.
Drake Maye vs. Tampa’s secondary: Tampa’s secondary is vulnerable underneath and in the intermediate level. Look for Drake Maye to attack those areas a bunch in the passing game today. Vertically, Tampa Bay defends the pass well the Patriots will have match up advantages with Hunter Henry, Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas.
Harold Landry vs. Luke Goedeke: Landry has been quiet the past few weeks but he could be primed for a big game against Goedeke who wins with power more than he does speed. He doesn’t bend well and Landry could get consistent pressure on Mayfield from the right side.
Craig Woodson vs. Cade Otton: Woodson has done a good job of matching up against tight ends this season and while he will have his hands full with Otton, this could be a favorable match up for the Patriots because Woodson could stick to him vertically and at the intermediate level.
