The Punishment Handed Out to the Giants is Further Proof That the NFL is a League of Double Standards

The Not Fair League strikes again with another senseless punishment.

The NFL once again proved on Monday that there is a double standard when it comes to punishing teams for violating league rules.

The league announced that it fined Giants coach Ben McAdoo $50,000 dollars for using a walkie-talkie during the second half of the Giants, Cowboys game last weekend. The organization was also fined $150,000 for knowingly allowing the violation to occur. The team will also move down in the fourth round of the 2017 draft, although they can’t fall down the round more than 12 spots.

The NFL made it a point to mention that the Giants cooperated and that this was their first offense. They were punished like a first time offender. Weren’t the Cleveland Browns a first time offenders two years ago when then GM Ray Farmer was busted texting coaches on the sideline? He was suspended for four games without pay and the Browns paid a $250,000 fine. I don’t see how the two punishments are the same.

The NFL is a joke! First time offenders my you know what! The reason the Giants punishment wasn’t as severe as what was handed down in the case of the Browns is because Giants owner John Mara is in bed with the NFL. He is one of the most powerful and influential owners in the league.

Roger Goodell sees Mara as one of his top allies and an owner who wields influence over the other owners. The Giants were never going to be punished to fullest extent of the law because of Goodell’s relationship with Mara.

If this were another team or dare I say, the PATRIOTS, the punishment would have been more severe. Why? Because the NFL is an inconsistent league of double standards when it comes to doling out punishment. Goodell doesn’t hand out the same punishment twice.

People around the country thought that Patriots fans overreacted to the deflategate punishment, but after seeing the Giants avoid punishment for deflating footballs two weeks ago and getting slapped on the rest for the walkie-talkies, Patriots fans have every reason to be upset.

This latest attempt at discipline is further proof that Roger Goodell is a joke and the NFL as a whole is a joke. Goodell isn’t about protecting the shield. He’s about hiding behind it.
