The Patriots have signed former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Caleb Jones to their practice squad. In a corresponding move, they released defensive end Brevin Allen.
Jones, 24, was originally signed by Green Bay as a rookie free agent out of Indiana on May 2, 2022. The 6-foot-9, 370-pounder, began the 2022 season on the practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster. Last season, he was active for two games, appearing in one, and was inactive for 15 games and both postseason games. Jones was released by Green Bay on Aug. 27, 2024.
After being released last week, we identified Jones as a player to watch as possible addition for the Patriots. Now they have signed him to the practice squad.
Executive VP of football operations Eliot Wolf is continuing to try to find ways to upgrade the offensive tackle position. Jones is the fourth offensive tackle signed by the team in the past week.
Jones is expected to play right tackle for the Patriots. For now he is on the practice squad but he could see time at some point this season.
