Northeast 7-on-7 East Tournament Preview

Shane Eason is one of the players to watch in today’s Northeast 7 on 7 East Regional

The Northeast 7 on 7 rolls on today with the East Regional. Here are some thoughts on each pool.

Open Division

Pool 1

Stacked pool with Woburn, BB&N, Masco, Andover and Lynn Classical.  This will be a good pool to watch. Plenty of quarterback talent and skill. Andover’s Dom Papa and BB&N’s Damon Taylor are the two signal callers to watch.

Pool 2

Methuen, Brooks, Peabody, Winchester and Roxbury Latin make up Pool 2. Methuen has some talent back headlined by running back Shane Eason. You have an interesting mix of public and private schools here which make this an intriguing pool. You have Methuen vs. Peabody right out of the gate at 10 am to set the tone.

Pool 3

What a pool! Needham, Lynn English, Reading, Barnstable and Lowell. All teams that could either make a run this season or surprise people. Needham will be the favorite to come out of this pool with Vaughn Williams and a talented skill group. Keep an eye on Barnstable and Lowell. Both schools have talented skill groups and are well coached.

Pool 4

Billerica, Marblehead, Westford Academy, Belmont and Bedford make up this pool. Billerica and Marblehead should once again be pretty good and return talented skill groups. Don’t be surprised if both make long runs. Westford should once again take another step in Division 2 this upcoming season. They will get people’s attention in this pool.

Small Division

Pool 1

St. Mary’s impressed in the North Regional last week and look for them to once again make some noise today. Danvers is an interesting team to watch in this pool as well. The rest of the pool is comprised of Northeast, Triton and Saugus.

Pool 2

Bishop Fenwick and Swampscott are the two schools we will be watching closely in this pool but don’t sleep on Wilmington. Same goes with Nashoba Valley and Greater Lowell Tech. Both programs have the skill to compete. Fenwick is the one team we think could surprise in this tournament.

Pool 3

Lynnfield and Salem will be the two teams to watch in this pool. Both programs have good returning talent and should put on a good showing today. I would keep a close eye on KIPP Academy as well. KIPP always has athletes and they can throw the ball. Arlington Catholic and Hamilton-Wenham are also in this pool.

Pool 4

Winthrop and Gloucester are primed to have a good showing. Greater Lawrence Tech and Lynn Tech have enough skill to compete. Winthrop will be favored to come out of this pool.
