The New York Jets should take advantage of Darrelle Revis’ pending legal problems and release him as soon as possible.
That’s right. I think the Jets should turn their backs on one of the most decorated players in team history. They should do it now so that they can get out of the last three years of his contract.
Revis is toast. He is a shell of the player he was three years ago. Between his decline on the field and recent thuggery off the field, now would be a good time for the Jets to cut their losses and move on from Revis.
Revis has three years and $39 million dollars left on his current deal. The cap strapped Jets could really use some relief, especially if they want to sign a veteran quarterback and fill other holes on the roster.
Sure, it wouldn’t be easy to release a player who has done so much for the organization and the city of New York but the NFL is a business. Revis knows that better than anyone. He has made $118 million dollars in his career because of the business.
Sadly, Revis Island is now a popular vacation spot now. Opposing receivers like going there. Revis no longer has the mental or physical edge on opposing players. He is mortal now. He knows it and the Jets know it.
The 2017 draft is loaded at cornerback so if there was a year to focus on the position, it would be this one. The Jets could really reinvent themselves at the position.
That’s why the Jets should capitalize on what’s going on with Revis and cut him. It would be the best thing for him and the organization. Especially the organization.
