The NFL announced yesterday that Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is going to be reinstated for the 2016 season. Gordon will sit out the first four games but he will return for the Week five match up against the Patriots.
It’s great news for a Browns organization that has had a tumultuous off-season. Getting Gordon back gives the Browns the one thing they are lacking right now. A proven playmaker.
Gordon has the potential to flourish in Hue Jackson’s system. Jackson will give him every opportunity to succeed and be the Browns number one receiver. There’s no guarantee Gordon gets to week five. He could have another meltdown. If he does, he’s probably done in the NFL.
Josh Gordon needs the Browns and the Browns need him. Both sides have to make it work. The Browns need to provide Gordon with support on and off the field and he needs to mature and make a commitment to the organization.
If both sides can learn to co-exist, Gordon will realize his enormous potential and the Browns will have the number one receiver they are desperately lacking.
