I am 41 years old and I can honestly say that the 2016 Hall of Fame class is one of the best classes I have seen get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in my lifetime.
The class is headlined by Brett Favre who in my opinion is one of the five greatest quarterbacks of all time. Favre is a legend despite having some ups and downs during 18 year career.
His detractors point to the fact that he had a gunslinger mentality and as a result threw too many interceptions. To those people I say, what ever! Favre was fun to watch and he played the game like a kid. I throughly enjoyed watching him play.
Former Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace was a standard bearer at his position and one of the most dominant pass blockers of his generation.
Wide receiver Marvin Harrison quietly put together one of the greatest careers in NFL history. Harrison caught 1,102 passes for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns. Harrison played in the same era as Terrell Owens and Randy Moss but you can make the case he was the best receiver of his generation. The numbers back it up.
Outside linebacker Kevin Greene should have gotten the call to Canton sooner. The man who looked like Hulk Hogan finished his career with 160 career sacks. He was unblockable in his prime.
Former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo finally got into the Hall of Fame as a contributor. DeBartolo has been a presenter of his former players throughout the years. Now it’s his turn to get inducted and its long overdue.
Former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy is an interesting selection to the Hall of Fame for me because I never viewed him as a Hall of Fame caliber coach.
Dungy only won one Super Bowl. I think he got in more for what he did in turning around the Buccaneers than what he did with the Colts.
Finally, legendary Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler and former Lions guard Dick Stanfel got in. It shouldn’t have taken as long as it did for either guy to get enshrined! Especially Stabler, who while not having great stats was a winner!
The 2016 Hall of Fame class has a lot of star power and it will be remembered as one of the greatest classes of all time.
