We got a chance to catch up with standout Medfield running back Brady McCormack to talk about the Warriors 5-0 start, his game and what he likes to do when he’s not playing football.
Here is our interview with Brady.
NEFJ: Talk about your ascension to being one of the best backs in the state of Massachusetts. How much does it validate your hard work leading into this season?
BM: “I put a lot of hard work in this summer and in the off-season. I was confident coming into this season and working with this great group of guys makes it that much easier. Every day at practice is a great time with my guys, I go out there and do my best every Friday night.”
NEFJ: Medfield is off to a 5-0 start. You guys have been one of the pleasant surprises in the state. What has been the key to your undefeated start?
BM: “The team morale has been at an all time high through the preseason and it has carried into the season so far. We all enjoy working hard and playing as well as we can. We pick each other up and keep moving forward, there is no better group of guys I would rather work with.”
NEFJ: Talk about playing for Coach Ormberg. How much do you guys enjoy playing for him and the coaching staff?
BM: “He is a great coach and looks out for every single one of us. He keeps our practice interesting and packed with competition, which makes all the difference. Every single one of our coaches has goals set for the season and make every week a step in the right direction. They always bring a fun, positive, supportive and competitive atmosphere with them making every player feel at home on the team.”
NEFJ: You and Mateo Benson have become a potent one, two punch in the running game. Talk about your relationship with him and how you guys complement each other.
BM: “We have been good friends for years now and getting to run behind him and block for him has been an amazing experience. We both are dedicated and hard working individuals so there was no doubt in my mind that we would make something special out of this season. We are both great with the ball in our hands so it makes our offense easy to deceive the defense. This allows us to break tackles and run the way we have been for the past five weeks.”
NEFJ: What are your team and individual goals for the rest of this season? How do you achieve them?
BM: “Over the past three years of my high school career we have come up just short of a playoff run, so this season we are looking forward to having a run in the playoffs. We would love to stay undefeated through the remainder of the regular season. This takes a whole team effort in practice and preparation. For me, personally I am looking to break the school record for career rushing yard, I am currently 82 yards short, I will break the record this Friday! Looking forward to reaching this milestone in my career and this season.”
NEFJ: Finally. Let’s get to know you.
- What’s your favorite meal?
BM: “I love a good chicken pot pie.”
2. Who is your favorite artist?
BM: “My current favorite artist is Sam Barber, and my favorite band has to be Creed.”
3. When you aren’t playing football, what do you like to do in your free time?
BM: “I love fishing in the summer and spring. During the football season, I like watching college football and the NFL with the guys on the team. It is always great.”
