In a historic move that bridges the gap between past glory and future potential, University of Rhode Island football legend Mark S. Cruise ’81 ’84 and his wife, Sue Cruise ’84, have donated $2 million to their alma mater. This contribution stands as the largest single monetary gift ever received by the URI football program, signaling a transformative era for the Rams both on the field and in the classroom.
In a significant boost for the future of Rhode Island Football, the program has confirmed that star wide receiver Marquis Buchanan and standout quarterback Devin Farrell will both return to the Rams for the 2026 season.
The Rhode Island Rams kicked off spring practice this week and they will be looking to carry the success they had last season when they won a program record 11 games and a playoff game. It is going to be a busy late fall, early winter in New England as three teams earned FCS playoff bids on Sunday. Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State won their respective conferences and earned automatic bids while New Hampshire earned an at-large bid. The Wildcats will host UT Martin on Saturday.
