Quarterback Hudson Garrity is transferring to Milton Academy. In a move that has been speculated for a while now, the standout signal caller announced last night that he is leaving Archbishop Williams for the ISL.

Garrity put up big numbers last season for the Bishops as an eighth grader, leading the program to the Division 5 state semifinals. The Hingham native already holds two FBS offers from UMass and Syracuse.

I caught up with Garrity last night to get his thoughts on why he made the move to Milton Academy.

“I wanted to compete at the highest level both academically and athletically. Milton has elite academics and a championship football culture. It is an amazing opportunity to compete with and against some of the best coaches and players in the country. I am super excited for the opportunity.”

Garrity says that his development was a big part of the decision as well. He recently turned 15 years old so he wanted to go to a place where he can take the next step in his maturation as a quarterback.

“I just turned 15 a few weeks ago, so I was relatively young for my grade. At the quarterback position, development is everything so having an extra year has been awesome. It definitely has helped me in terms of my technique and processing speed.”

The opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the region also played a role in Garrity’s decision to move on to Milton Academy. The ISL and NEPSAC as a whole is home to arguably the top talent in the region. The chance to compete against them appealed to Garrity.

“I am super excited to compete in the NEPSAC. I want to be the best and to do that you have to compete against the best guys. The NEPSAC has some of the best players in the country. I am fired up for that opportunity. I am excited to show what I can do.”

Family plays a big role in making decisions like this and Garrity’s family already has a connection to Milton Academy. His sister is a junior at the school and committed to Harvard for lacrosse. It will truly be a family affair.

“My family has been super supportive. They want me to chase my dreams and Milton is an incredible platform to do that. It is really an exciting opportunity. I am grateful for it and definitely appreciate all their support. My sister actually goes to Milton Academy. She just committed to Harvard for lacrosse so it will be fun to be with her for her senior year as well. Plus she can give me a ride to school lol.”

So what can Milton Academy fans and alumni expect from Garrity? A mature young man beyond his years who wants to be great.

“They can expect a leader and a playmaker that loves to prepare, loves to compete and will not get outworked. I will do whatever it takes to help my team win. You have to be obsessed to play quarterback and I love doing the work it takes to try to be great at it. It is super fun working to be the best at something. Milton Academy has a ton of talent and a bunch of dudes on the O-line so it’s going to be fun for sure.”
