Seven Points on the Patriots 34-15 loss to the Dolphins

The Patriots were throughly dominated in a 34-15 loss to the Dolphins. The offense, defense and special teams all struggled in a game where the Patriots were outclassed and out coached.

Here are seven points on the Patriots loss.

1. Tua carves them up: Tua Tagovailoa improved to 7-0 in his career by carving up the Patriots secondary to the tune of 317 yards and 4 touchdown passes. He was on point all afternoon and the lack of a pass rush gave him time to work through his progressions and hit the open receivers. He was on point all afternoon.

2. Defense no-shows: The defense was atrocious. No communication, poor tackling and bad pursuit angles. It has been a theme with unit all season long and despite playing well at times, they have no struggled for the most part. This game might have been their worst performance.

3. Offensive line reverts to earlier form: The offensive line got whooped, plain and simple. Vedarian Lowe had penalty issues, Trey Jacobs struggled with Chop Robinson and got benched and the interior offensive line did not fare much better. The Dolphins were in Drake Maye’s face all afternoon, but not only that, they also controlled the line of scrimmage and limited the run game.

4. Maye struggles: Maye had a long afternoon. A big reason was the lack of protection but he also missed receiver and he turned the ball over twice, which has become an issue in recent weeks. Maye is certainly the guy moving forward. He has franchise quarterback written all over him but he needs to take better care of the football.

5. Undisciplined again: The Patriots had 10 penalties for 75 yards and two turnovers. The undisciplined play continues to be an issue. Jerod Mayo took ownership of the undisciplined play after the game.

“Look, it starts with me. It starts with me. We’ve had these hiccups of games where the penalties really affected us, and it did today.”

It is great that he is owning his team’s play but Mayo and his staff need to fix it because it is a major problem.

6. Running game MIA: The Patriots rushed for 86 yards. That’s it! As long as this running game is MIA, this team will continue to struggle offensively. They need balance in the run game and it is simply not there right now.

7. Swept again: The Dolphins swept the season series from the Patriots again. It is two straight years now. It is also the 16th time Miami has swept the season series from the Patriots. New England is now 17-43 all-time in Miami. Truly a house of horror for them.
