You win games with the big boys up front.
If that wasn’t clear, it should be now, at least when it comes to football in the Northeast.
On Saturday morning, Rivals unveiled its top recruit for each state, although, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire were not included when it comes to New England. The top guys in both Massachusetts and Connecticut play on the O-line.
In Massachusetts, Dexter Southfield offensive lineman Hardy Watts earned the top spot. Watts is coveted by some of the biggest programs in the country standing at 6’6″ 285 lbs. He currently has a whopping 28 offers from schools like Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, BC, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Tennessee. Basically, any big-time program you can think of wants Watts’ services and his announcement – whenever it comes – will be highly viewed.
Offensive tackle and current Notre Dame commit Will Black was the top dog in Connecticut. Listed at 6’7″ 295lbs., the Choate Rosemary Hall big man from Wallingford holds 22 offers aside from the Notre Dame one. Alabama, Florida State, BC, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Georgia, Syracuse, South Carolina, Standford and UConn are just a small sample size of the kind of attention he’s garnering as one of the most dominant players in the region.
There are plenty of scenarios where Watts and Black end up in the same room at a top notch program somewhere, which would obviously create nightmares for defensive coordinators in the Big 10, ACC or SEC.
