If you’re keeping track at home, the Renegades have now outscored opponents 264-31 in 2023.
With another blowout victory – this time a ridiculous 84-25 thrashing of the D.C. Divas – the four-time defending WFA Pro National Champions are showing no signs of slowing down on the pursuit of another trip to Canton, OH.
The Renegades enter their bye week now at 4-0 wit two regular season games remaining until the WFA postseason begins.
“Being able to execute on third downs was a big key for us today, but still there were a lot of mistakes and things we gotta clean up,” said head coach John Johnson, who has his team pursuing perfection as much as they can.
Four players scored their first career TDs in this game for Boston as well, showing the depth that the Renegades and GM Ben Brown have built. (TE Vanessa Baer, QB Jackie Lane, RB Latoya Saulters, DB Carolyn Glynn).
“It’s awesome. They work so hard all week long and all year long really, and for some of them like defensive back Carolyn Glynn who is starting for the first time this year, getting an interception for a touchdown is awesome to see. You love to see players being rewarded for their hard work. It’s a great feeling,” Johnson added.
Usually, it’s Allison Cahill leading the offensive onslaught, but the best QB in league history only needed to complete 15 passes on Saturday night, throwing for 262 yards and two touchdowns. This was a full team effort as Boston put up 602 yards. The Renegades pounded the rock for 244 yards, with Tytti Kuusinen rushing for 89 of those yards and two TD’s. Heather Marini, Katie Falkowski, Ruth Matta, Latoya Saulters, Kyshani Dummott and Stephanie Pascual all combined for the reminder of the 244 mark on the ground. Msrini (2), Falkowski, Matta, Saulters and Pascual all had touchdown runs.
Meanwhile, Chanté Bonds had seven catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Pascual added five grabs for 131 yards. Vanessa Baer also had a receiving touchdown, her only reception of the game.
Defensively, Carolyn Glynn had a pick-six to lead the unit. The Renegades forced three total turnovers and held D.C. to 280 total yards of offense. Boston also held the Divas to just 2-14 on third downs and 2-6 on fourth.
“I knew they wanted to throw the ball, and I just trusted my coaching,” Glynn said. “When I saw the flash of the ball key, I just flew forward, jumped in front of her and then just kept going to the end zone. I didn’t have a great first half so I wanted to shift my mindset in the second half and thanks to my teammates lifting me up and supporting me I was able to do that and the result was a pick six. It meant everything. It’s been a long road. I have been on this team for seven seasons, and this is my first season starting.
“I am just honored to take the field, but to go out there and have a big play and make an impact for my team, that is everything to me.”
The Renegades led 28-7 after one, 42-7 at the half and 70-13 after three. Boston heads into its bye week now before hosting the Tampa Bay Inferno on June 3 in its final home game before hitting the road to close out the regular season.
