Recruiting Visit with Avon Old Farms offensive tackle Charlie Thom

Former Darien standout tight end Charlie Thom has transferred to Avon Old Farms. The 6’7 275 pound Thom has been one of the hottest names in recruiting circles this off-season.

Coming off of a great performance at last week’s showcase day, Thom’s stock is rising. He has 18 offers from schools like UConn, Nebraska, Syracuse, Wake Forest, URI, Dartmouth and Princeton. 

We caught up with Thom this week and talked about his busy spring and the recruiting process. 

NEFJ: How has the off-season gone for you so far? What have you done in regards to getting yourself ready for the upcoming season?

CT: “The off-season has gone great! I have been training extremely hard and focusing on improving strength, speed, and technique. I think I have built a good team around me that has allowed me to improve tremendously this offseason.”

NEFJ: How has the recruiting process been. How much communication have you had with coaches? Any specific schools that you have spoken with you or offered you lately? 

CT: “The recruiting process has really started picking up recently. I’ve had a lot of communication with plenty of coaches from the FCS level to FBS. Nebraska was one of the big schools that offered me recently.”

NEFJ: Have you had the opportunity to show what you can do at any showcases or combines this off-season? 

CT: “Yes, I definitely have been able to showcase my abilities. We had the showday this past Monday and then we had a few showcases the past few Tuesdays where I was able to compete against some other prep players.”

NEFJ: What is your summer looking like in terms of camps and preparing for the upcoming season?

CT: “I’ll be camping at PSU and ND. But, there will definitely be a couple more I believe.”

NEFJ: When do you anticipate making a decision regarding what school you will be attending in the Fall of 2026? 

CT: “I really have no clue yet and still have a lot to do in terms of talking with my parents and figuring stuff out.”

NEFJ: What are looking for in a school ultimately? From a football and academic perspective. 

CT: “I am looking for a high academic school that competes at a high level on the football field.”

NEFJ: How do you plan to unwind the rest of this off-season before the regular season grind begins? 

CT: “I’ll just continue to hangout with family and friends. Also lifting and training for the season so I can be the best I can be come this fall.”
