Recruiting: St.John’s Prep wide receiver Jesse Ofurie commits to Rutgers

St. John’s Prep junior wide receiver Jesse Ofurie has committed to Rutgers. Ofurie made the announcement this morning on his Twitter account.

Ofurie held offers from 20 schools. The other FBS schools to offer Ofurie were Army, Air Force and UConn. In the end, Ofurie picked Rutgers because he felt the coaching staff would him develop and take his game to the next level.

” I had trust in the coaches and staff to develop my game so I can succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. I and my family built a great relationship with the coaches.”

Having the opportunity to play in the Big 10 also appealed to Ofurie.

“I’ll be playing in the most competitive league in college football which is the BIG 10. Rutgers provides a great academic opportunity and resources to help me with life after football.”

Of course a decision. Like this isn’t just an individual commitment. Family factors into it as well.

“This opportunity is big for me and my family. Nine years ago I was just a kid from Nigeria coming to the states. Now I have the opportunity to chase my dreams and have a great education for free. It’s nothing but a blessing but this is only the beginning.”

Ofurie will be a great fit in Rutgers offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson’s offense. Gleeson likes big receivers on the perimeter that can win one on one and out position defenders with their size.

Now that he has committed, Ofurie still has another year left at the Prep. Brian St. Pierre’s team is one of the most talented in the state and a Division One favorite thanks to Ofurie, Joenel Aguero, Carson Browne and host of other talented skill players.
