One of the top recruits in the state for the Class of 2022 has committed. Central Catholic quarterback Ayden Pereira announced tonight he has committed to the University of Maine.

I caught up with Ayden and asked him why he ultimately chose Maine.
“I felt like it was a great fit. I could see myself being happy there not only athletically but socially too. I got a great feel from the coaches and I felt wanted. I felt like I was their guy.”
Pereira has been one of the top signal callers in the state the past three years and has put up huge numbers in that span.
He is well versed in the spread offense and that experience helped him in this process. As far as a timeline for when he could see playing time for the Black Bears, Pereira said they haven’t gotten that far yet.
“We haven’t talked much about a plan long or short (term). Just that I’m going to go in and work hard, try to learn the playbook as fast as possible, and see what happens from there.”
Pereira still has unfinished business at the high school level. Central Catholic is in the Division One playoffs and they host St. John’s Shrewsbury on Friday night.
When we spoke to Pereira earlier this season, he said winning a state title was his number one goal. That goal is still attainable and now that he has made his decision, he can focus on that goal.
Maine is not only getting a terrific quarterback but they are getting a terrific young man as well. Ayden is driven to succeed. They are getting a winner.
