Kickoff: The Pirates are back after a bye week. They will look to pick up their first win of the season when they host the undefeated expansion Freight.
The Freight have wins over Northern Arizona and Tulsa. The Pirates meanwhile opened the season with back to back losses to Jacksonville and Quad City. They will look to pick y their first win against a talented Fishers team.
Here are three keys to the game.
1st Down: Get Williams Back: The Pirates missed Pooka Williams against Quad City. They need him back and should have him back tonight. Williams, who replaced Jimmie Robinson scored three touchdowns on opening weekend.
2nd Down: The passing game needs to get going: The Pirates passing game has been nonexistent through two weeks. Massachusetts has had some growing pains with new quarterback Kenji Bahar under center. The Pirates have too much talent on the outside not to make big plays through the air. That needs to change tonight.
3rd Down: Pressure Wright: Fishers quarterback Jiya Wright has been tough to handle through two games. When he has time, he can move around in the pocket and make plays as a runner and as a passer. The Pirates need to get pressure on him and make him uncomfortable. If Wright settles in, he will be tough.
4th Down: Take advantage of turnovers: The Pirates defense has done a good job of generating turnovers thus far. The offense needs to take advantage of them tonight and score points.
Extra Point: Tonight is the first ever meeting between the Freight and Pirates. Fishers is one of three teams left that are undefeated in the IFL.
Final Drive: We knew the Pirates were rebuilding heading into this season. Admittedly, it has been tougher than we thought initially. The Pirates are young in key spots and with a new head coach, the growing pains will continue. The hope is, they put it together tonight and pick up a much needed win.
