FOXBOROUGH- The Patriots have agreed to a trade sending third-year offensive lineman Caedan Wallace to the Miami Dolphins. 

Along with Wallace, New England is sending a 2029 seventh-round draft pick to Miami in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round selection, pending a physical. The move came after initial reports indicated the Patriots were planning to waive the former third-round pick.

Rather than letting Wallace hit the waiver wire—where Miami sat 13th in the claiming order—the Dolphins jumped ahead of potential competitors by offering draft capital to secure the tackle outright. 

Selected 68th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Wallace struggled to carve out a consistent role in Foxborough. Across his two seasons with the Patriots, he appeared in just 10 games, making two starts during his rookie campaign before seeing his playing time shrink to only eight offensive snaps in 2025.

For the Patriots, moving Wallace frees up a roster spot and saves approximately $1.34 million against the salary cap while recouping a slightly higher late-round asset for a player they were already prepared to release. 

For the Dolphins, the acquisition represents a low-risk, high-upside gamble on a young lineman with day-two draft pedigree. Miami entered training camp facing questions regarding tackle depth, particularly following recent injury concerns around starter Austin Jackson.

Wallace started 40 games at right tackle during his college career at Penn State and took snaps on both the left and right sides in New England, gives Miami’s coaching staff much-needed flexibility and depth along the front line heading into the season.
