Patriots trade Garrett Bradbury to the Bears

The Patriots have reportedly agreed to trade veteran center Garrett Bradbury to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.

For the Chicago Bears, the acquisition is in response to the sudden and stunning retirement of Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman. Facing an immediate vacancy at center, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles targeted Bradbury to provide veteran stability and familiarity with the NFC North, where Bradbury spent the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Vikings. By taking on Bradbury’s modest $3.7 million base salary for 2026, the Bears have secured a reliable starter who hasn’t missed a game in two years while maintaining the financial flexibility to pursue other major roster additions.

The Patriots on the other hand are coming off a run to Super Bowl LX and are using the trade to clear a path for younger talent. Bradbury’s departure allows second year guard Jared Wilson to transition back to his natural position at center. Wilson, a 2025 third-round pick out of Georgia, spent much of his rookie season playing left guard out of necessity but is widely viewed as the long-term future of the Patriots’ interior line. By moving Bradbury now, New England avoids a $5.7 million cap hit and gains future draft capital while officially handing the keys to Wilson.

While Bradbury might be viewed by some analysts as a slight downgrade from Dalman’s peak production, his durability and experience make him an ideal bridge for a Chicago team looking to remain competitive.

Meanwhile, the Patriots enter the 2026 offseason with a clearer vision of its youth movement, prioritizing the development of its home-grown talent over veteran holdovers. The trade cannot be officially processed until the league year begins on March 11.
