The Patriots visit the Jets tonight and there several key match-ups to keep an eye on. Here are five match ups that we are watching.
Caedan Wallace vs. Will McDonald: Wallace makes his first career start and it is at left tackle. Wallace will compete but I also expect him to need some help in certain situations. McDonald is an explosive but undersized pass rusher who plays with good lean and bend. Wallace must cut the edge off and redirect him or McDonald could have a big night. The Patriots are thin at left tackle.
Garrett Wilson vs. Christian Gonzalez: Gonzalez struggled at times on Sunday against D.K Metcalf. He will need to play better against Wilson who is a better route runner and is more explosive than Metcalf. Gonzalez must match up physically against Wilson, especially in the red zone.
Patriots interior OL vs. Quinnen Williams: Williams is one of the three best interior defensive lineman in the NFL. He will be a problem for David Andrews , Layden Robinson and Michael Jordan. The Patriots will need to double him in certain situations. If they do not, Williams will be a problem.
Marcus Jones vs. Allen Lazard: Lazard is off to good start and is one of Aaron Rodgers favorite targets. Jones will have his hands full with Lazard because of his size. It is imperative that Jones matches his physicality and stays in phase vertically. Lazard is a good route runner. He is crafty when it comes to creating separation. Jones will have to be on top of his game.
Patriots receivers vs. Sauce Gardner: Let’s face it. Gardner could hang out on the backside of formations and have a Diet Coke. This Patriots receiving corp will not challenge him much. It would be in the Patriots best interest if they threw away from him.
