Patriots: Stephon Gilmore testing positive affects the Patriots on and off the field

Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for COVID-19, two days after playing every defensive snap against the Kansas City Chiefs. Gilmore acknowledged this afternoon that he is asymptotic.

Gilmore is suspected to have contracted the virus from Cam Newton. He tested negative in all three tests prior to Monday’s game but tested positive in his latest test.

So what does all mean? It means that Gilmore is out on Sunday against the Broncos. He has been placed on the COVID-19/Reserve List joining Newton and defensive lineman Bill Murray.

As for the game itself, the league says it’s still on for 4:25 however the fate of the game will hinge on testing and whether the Patriots have anymore positive tests.

The Patriots now have to figure out a way to replace the best cornerback in the game. Not only that but they have to hope that testing comes back negative and that they can play on Sunday. It’s not exactly how you want to go into a bye week but thus is life in this era of COVID.
