The Patriots have added a third tight end, signing former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mitchell Wilcox.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder, originally signed with Cincinnati on April 27, 2020, as a rookie free agent out of South Florida. He spent a part of the 2020 season on the practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster on Jan. 1, 2020.
Wilcox played in 48 regular season games with the Cincinnati. He started nine games and for his career, he caught 29 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown for the Bengals. He has played in seven postseason games and has 2 receptions for 29 yards.
Last season, Wilcox played in all 17 games with four starts. He finished the season with 9 receptions for 56 yards.
Wilcox also played on all the special teams for Cincinnati so he will play a prominent role on special teams. With the addition of Wilcox, the Patriots now have four tight ends on the roster. Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, LeMichael Pettway and Wilcox.
