Game Rewind: The Patriots dominated the Jets from the opening quarter on en route to a 33-0 win at MetLife Stadium. The Patriots swept the season season series from the Jets. It is the eleventh time in Bill Belichick’s tenure as head coach that the Patriots have swept the season series from the Jets.
Here are five thoughts on the game.
1.Patriots offense was methodical: The Patriots only amassed 323 yards of total offense but they were methodical in their approach offensively. Josh McDaniels game plan was terrific. He mixed up his runs, passes and screens well and that limited Gregg Williams ability to pressure certain formations based on down and distance. McDaniels also kept the Jets off balance by using a variety of personnel groupings and using all of his available skill players. It was truly a team effort which is remarkable considering how much this team st
2. Sony the Pony: Michel only 42 yards on 19 carries but he scored three touchdowns. While he didn’t do much on the ground, he finished near the goal line. Michel runs hard with balanced pads. It is his running style that has enabled him to become one of the best short yardage backs in the league. Michel gives the Patriots some much needed balance to go with Tom Brady and the passing game.
3. Patriots defense makes Darnold see ghosts: Sam Darnold was so traumatized by the Patriots defense last night that he claims he was seeing “ghosts”. One has to wonder what he was seeing. Darnold threw four interceptions in the worst game of his career.
4. Complete Effort: The Patriots dominated in all three phases of the game. It was a complete effort from a team that has won this way all season long. Between injuries and a lack of talent at certain positions, the Patriots are not as good as they could be on paper. In many way, they are vulnerable. However, thanks to the best coaching staff in football, an elite defense and special teams, the patriots have overcome their shortcomings offensively to improve to 7-0.
5. Point made: The Jets beat the Cowboys last week and started bumping their gums about how unstoppable they were. Well, that came back to bite them in the rear end. To quote the late Dennis Green. The Jets are who we thought they were. A collection of talented but undisciplined football players who are not quite ready to compete with the Patriots.
