I feel like I have used this header before when it comes to Trent Brown. In any event, the Patriots re-signing Brown is huge news.
Brown signed a two year deal to stay in New England on Monday and in the process helped fortify a depleted offensive line. The Patriots traded Shaq Mason to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and watched Ted Karras sign with the Bengals.
Retaining Brown was a priority for Bill Belichick. Luckily for the Patriots, Brown had a quiet market and he wanted to return to New England. The only team to really show an interest in Brown was the Seahawks.
With Brown back in the fold at right tackle, the pressure is slightly off Belichick to address the offensive line right away. The Patriots will need to add one or two more offensive lineman in the upcoming draft but now instead of taking one in the first round, they can address another need instead.
The 6-8 380 pound Brown returned to New England last off-season in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. Brown missed eight weeks due to a calf injury. Upon his return however, he played at a pro bowl level and solidified the Patriots offensive line.
It hasn’t exactly been the easiest week for Patriots fans as they watch other teams sign players while their team sits idly by but they can take solace knowing that a key free agent has opted to stay home. Keeping Brown was a priority to start free agency and Belichick was able to do that.
