Malcolm Butler’s return engagement with the Patriots is over after the Super Bowl XLIX hero was released from I.R with a settlement on Thursday.
Butler signed a two year deal with the Patriots on March 24th and got a ton of work with the one’s all through the first two weeks of camp. Butler got hurt in the first preseason game against the Giants and was placed on season ending injured reserve on August 16th.
The 5-11 190 Butler was signed as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama in 2014. He is best known for clinching the Patriots win over the Seahawks with a goal line interception of Russell Wilson in Super Bowl XLIX.
In his career, Butler played in 100 games. He started 84 games making 405 total tackles to go along with 3 sacks, 17 interceptions and 2 interception returns for touchdowns. Butler also had 82 passes defended, 5 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.
Butler also played in 12 post season games, starting in eight of them. He finished with 42 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 10 passes defensed.
