The Patriots and Broncos game has been postponed to next Sunday after a Patriots player tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing.
The game was originally scheduled to be played today at 1 pm, then it got moved to 4:25 pm and finally it got moved to 5 pm on Monday after Stephon Gilmore tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.
Now that the game has been moved again, what does this mean for the NFL moving forward? The Patriots and Broncos both have a bye this week. The Broncos game against the Dolphins next week has been cancelled and will be moved to Week 11.
We knew that this season was going to be difficult at times with COVID-19 and so far through four weeks, it has been challenging with the situations in Tennessee and New England.
Despite that, the league has done a good job with testing and the majority of games are being played. Some are calling for weeks five and six to be cancelled and are calling for a bubble to be implemented. That is ridiculous and an overreaction.
Cancelling games that don’t need to be cancelled is foolish and the bubble idea would not work during the regular season in the NFL so people really need to stop putting that out there. It’s senseless.
Things could become more problematic as we get into the cold weather months with flu season, but for now, the NFL needs to keep chugging along and adjust on the fly.
Contrary to public opinion, the league is doing the best they can to protect their players and play the games. It is a delicate balance. The league will continue to face scrutiny but they are doing the right thing moving forward with the remaining games.
