The Patriots brought back many of the players they cut earlier this week as part of their practice squad.
The following players were signed to the practice squad.
OLB Tashawn Bower
CB Myles Bryant
OL James Ferentz
K Nick Folk
QB Brian Hoyer
TE Matt LaCosse
DT Bill Murray
WR Tre Nixon
OL Alex Redmond
CB D’Angelo Ross
OL Will Sherman
WR Kristian Wilkerson.
The Patriots also signed quarterback Garrett Gilbert, formally of the Cowboys and wide receiver Malcolm Perry.
Gilbert has been with the Patriots before. He was with the team in 2014. The Patriots signed him after the then St. Louis Rams cut him. Gilbert is an experienced veteran who at the very least has starter experience.
Carrying three quarterbacks is now a necessity with COVID and the expanded schedule.
Perry is an interesting acquisition. The former Navy quarterback turned receiver was recently cut by the Dolphins. He can play receiver and return kicks.
The Patriots had an interest in drafting him in 2019 but ultimately chose not to. He could be a player worth watching because of his versatility.
