Patriots Mock Draft 2.0

It is Maye Day for the Patriots as they take the UNC signal caller with the third overall pick.

In our second of five mock drafts, we go quarterback with the third overall pick and address the offensive line, wide receiver, edge and cornerback with the picks we have.

I also make a trade with the Houston Texans that better positioned the Patriots early on day three.

Here is our second mock draft.

Round 1 Pick 3: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina: The Patriots are giving vibes that they want to stick and pick at three. If that is the case, they will take the best available quarterback and that will be North Carolina’s Drake Maye. Maye is raw and needs to improve his decision making but his ceiling is in the same neighborhood as Justin Herbert, Jordan Love and Josh Allen.

Round 2: Pick 42: Patrick Paul, OT, Houston: I made a trade with the Houston Texans. I traded 34 and 137 for 42 and 123. With this pick, I am taking Patrick Paul an athletic tackle who profiles as a future left tackle. A potential plug and play starter from day one.

Round 3 Pick 68: Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan: The Patriots need a big play element to their offense and the 5-10 185 pound Wilson has the size and the ability to attack the defense at all three levels. A smooth route runner, Wilson offers alignment versatility. He can play the Z or the F.

Round 4 Pick 103: Josh Newton, CB, TCU: Newton was one of the top senior cornerbacks in the country this past season. He has good size at 5-10 185. Can play in press man or bail and play in match up zone. Newton is also physical in run support. He is not afraid to mix it up.

Round 4 Pick 123: Brendan Rice, WR, USC: The Patriots continue to weaponize the offense with the addition of Rice. The son of the legendary 49ers receiver Jerry Rice had 791 yards and 12 touchdowns last season in Lincoln Riley’s offense. At 6-2 205, he has good size and above average speed. Profiles as an X or Z receiver.

Round 6 Pick 180: Mohamed Kamara, EDGE, Colorado St. The Patriots have met with Kamara. They like his explosiveness off the edge and his ability to bend and make plays down the line. Kamara offers scheme versatility in that he can play EDGE or walk away as an overhang outside linebacker in sub packages.

Round 6 Pick 193: Christian Jones, OT, Texas: The Patriots would love if the athletic Jones fell to them in this spot. At 6-5 305, he has good length and good feet but Jones needs to anchor down more in the running game and develop more as a run blocker.

Round 7 Pick 231: LaDarius Henderson, OG, Michigan: Henderson could play guard or tackle and offers swing versatility. A good value pick in the seventh round.
