Offense
– Expect the Saints to use a lot of different formations and personnel groups.
– Sean Payton loves compressed formations and creating space for his receivers on the outside or running mesh concepts inside.
– The Saints utilize a lot of motion. They don’t just use it as a barometer to see what coverage a defense is in, they also do it to out leverage defenders on space.
– Direct snap package. The Saints will do a lot with Taysom Hill as a runner and passer.
– Deep shots off play action. The Saints run a variety of play action fakes and throw the ball down field out of them.
Defense
– Base pressure. The Saints don’t blitz a ton. They rely on their front four to get there using T-E stunts.
– When the Saints do blitz, expect a lot of double A gap pressure. They love to play two three technique tackles and blitz inside.
– Marcus Lattimore travels. He will match up on the Patriots best receiver no matter where they line up.
– The Saints play a lot of nickel and they’ll do it mostly with a 30 front. They do not play a ton of 30 fronts. When they do, they will go dime.
– Fundamentally sound. The Saints don’t usually beat themselves. They play aggressive but they are hardly out of position.
