Offensive tackle is the Patriots biggest need and they will need to address it both in free agency and the draft.
Both Vedarian Lowe and Trey Jacobs struggled last season and while both will have a chance to compete to start, they will have competition to start.
Expect the Patriots to add at least two veterans and two rookies at the position as they try to find the right combination.
Here are ten free agent tackles to keep an eye on for the Patriots.
Top 10 offensive tackle targets
Cam Robinson
Dan Moore Jr.
Jaylon Moore
Jedrick Wills
George Fant
D.J Humphries
Dillon Radunz
Matt Peart
Fred Johnson
Andre Dillard
Breakdown: Robinson is the top tackle on the market which is not saying much considering how much he struggled last season with the Vikings. Offensive line coach Doug Marrone was in Jacksonville when Robinson was drafted and he knows him well as a player and as a person. Perhaps he could get more out of him.
Moore will get overpaid by someone because they are desperate. He has flown flashes at times but he can be inconsistent and struggles with speed guys off the edge. Especially ones who line up in a tilt techniques.
Jaylon Moore played a lot in place of Trent Williams in San Francisco and is an intriguing option. An underrated option in many ways. He’s undersized at 6’4 311 but he is athletic and competes.
Wills looked the part his first two seasons in Cleveland but injuries and inconsistent play have derailed his career. If he gets with the right line coach, he could be a good reclamation project.
Fant and Humphries are veteran options but neither is anything more than a stop gap, one year option. Both would be desperation signings.
Mike Vrabel drafted Radunz in Tennessee so he is familiar with him. I think Radunz to the Patriots is in play. He can play right tackle and also kick inside to guard as well.
Peart is a former UConn standout who can play right or left tackle but he profiles more as a swing tackle off the bench than an actual starter.
Admittedly, I am intrigued by Johnson. Having seen him in person last summer, he is massive and could be in the mix at right tackle. Question is, can he start or is he a swing tackle?
I am an Andre Dillard fan. I do think he can play left tackle but is an upgrade over Lowe? Probably not. Another play Marrone could potentially get a lot out of.
