Patriots Four Down Preview: New England Patriots (0-1) at Green Bay Packers (1-0)

Kickoff: It is preseason game number two for the Patriots tonight against the Green Bay Packers from Lambeau Field. The last time we saw the Patriots, they did not look good in a 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium. The offense in particular struggled but none of the primary starters played specifically quarterback Mac Jones. They will play tonight and after a great finish to joint practices on Thursday, the expectation is that the offense will be much better tonight.

Here are four keys to the game tonight.

1st Down: How long will the starters play? We will probably see the starters play a quarter tonight. Some may play a half but not more than that. They need to play just enough to knock the rust off and get into game shape. Remember, preseason games do not count. The goal is to play, get some work in and get out of the game healthy.

2nd Down: Offensive line must be better: The offensive line struggled against the Texans but were better against the Packers but still struggled at times. The onus will be on this unit tonight to play better. With st least two starters in the line up, they should be better than last week.

3rd Down: Match ups on the outside: The Patriots secondary and Packers receivers went back and forth over the course of two days during joint practices. Expect that competition to carry over, especially amongst the starters. Same goes for the Patriots receivers versus the Packers secondary. The Patriots receivers torched them on Thursday so expect some good competition and some jaw jacking, at least in the first half.

4th Down: Come out of it healthy: The Patriots are pretty banged up. They had 11 guys out of the two joint practices. They cannot afford anymore injuries. They need to get some reps for their guys, evaluate them and get out of it healthy.

Extra Point: The Patriots and Green Bay have met 14 times inthe preseason and are even with seven wins each. The Patriots are 5-4 in road games against Green Bay in the preseason.

Final Drive: The Patriots had a good day of practice on Thursday. Carrying that over and capping it off with a win on the hollowed grounds of Lambeau Field would be a great way to wrap up a productive week for the Patriots.
