Former Patriots defensive end Jake Bequette announced yesterday that he is running for the U.S Senate. Bequette is running for the senate in Arkansas.
Bequette played his high school football at Catholic High School in Little Rock and then went on to star the University of Arkansas. He was a third round pick of the Patriots in 2012.
Bequette played four seasons in New England from 2012 to 2015 however he only appeared in eight games. He was a part of the 2014 team that beat the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.
Bequette joined the military after his playing career was over. He served with the 101st Airborne Division. Upon completing his service, he decided to pursue a career in politics.
In the video released this morning to announce his candidacy, Bequette identified as a conservative.
“What’s happening in Washington these days is a disgrace. Democrats have been taken over by radical socialists, and too many Republicans just go along to get along,” Bequette said in a video. “I’m a God-fearing Christian conservative who is 100 percent pro-life and pro-police.”
By announcing his candidacy now, Bequette has time to fundraise ahead of the Republican primary. The election isn’t until November 8th 2022.
