Patriots Draft: Scouting the New England prospects in today’s Hula Bowl

The college all-star game circuit kicks off today with the Hula Bowl. Several New England College draft prospects are going to be playing in today’s game.

Here are the New England prospects playing today and what we can expect.

Elijah Jones, CB, 6-1 181, Boston College: Jones has terrific length and he plays with good hands and can re-route receivers in press coverage. Jones plays with good lean and is smooth in his back pedal in off coverage. He does a good job in contested catch situations and has the ball skills necessary to finish plays at the high point. He doesnt do anything flashy per say but he is consistent.

Jalen Coker, WR, 6-0 218, Holy Cross: Coker has been one of the most consistent receivers in FCS football the past three years. Highly productive. A big play specialist who runs good routes and can create seperation at the top of his routes. Plays with terrific body control and has strong hands. Wins one on one in contested catch situations. Profiles as a X, F or Z.

Eric Watts, DE, 6-5 273, UConn: One of my favorite players in New England the past two seasons. Explosive off the snap and does a good job of using his hands and length to create and maintain seperation. Watts bends well for his size and can make plays along the line of scrimmage. Has pass rush upside and can develop into a three down player.

Jackson Mitchell, ILB, 6-1 227, UConn: A tackling machine. Plays with great instincts. Stays square to ball carriers and finishes at the point of contact. Tough, smart and can play all three downs. Moves well in coverage and does a good job of under cutting routes and matching on crossers. Jackson has three down upside and can play all three linebacker spots depending on the package.

Lorenzo Thompson, OG, 6-5 293, URI: One of the top offensive lineman in the CAA the past two seasons. Thompson plays with good power and anchor at the point of attack. Has strong hands and gets inside placement on defenders consistently. Moves well in all four directions and he can consistently come off double teams and play in space. Thompson is a solid short area pass blocker as well. He has the potential to play tackle at the next level as well.
