Here are some of my thoughts from day three and four of training camp.
1. Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio reiterated that Brady sitting out day two practice was the right thing to do. Clearly Brady got a “rest” day. Don’t be surprised if we see Brady get more time off this camp. It’s a maintenance thing.
2. The quarterbacks as a whole have struggled in camp thus far. I k ow it’s early but the kinks need to be worked out. Brady did hit Maurice Harris for a long touchdown pass yesterday.
3. Michael Bennett practiced for the first time yesterday. He missed the first three training camp practices due to a family matter. He thanked Bill Belichick for his understanding and said that Belichick’s understanding of the situation makes him want to play hard for him.
Belichick doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the way he handles situations like this. In many ways, he is like Vince Lombardi. Lombardi was demanding and tough on his players but was fair and understanding regarding their personnel lives. Belichick is the same way.
4. Sony Michel returned to practice on Saturday but didn’t participate in team drills. It was a welcomed sight for Patriots fans but still concerning. Michel has had knee issues throughout his career. That is why the Patriots drafted Damien Harris. He’s an insurance policy.
