Patriots: Dan Marino is the latest former Dolphin to bitch about the Patriots

Add Dan Marino to the long list of former Miami Dolphins that hates Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Marino joins the 1972 Dolphins and his late coach Don Shula in voicing their disapproval of the Patriots potential breaking one of their records.

Marino recently said in an interview with ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe that he hopes Belichick doesn’t break Shula’s all time wins record. Shula won 347 games (including playoffs) in his illustrious career. Belichick is currently third all time on that list with 311 career wins including the playoffs. He trails the legendary George Halas by 13 games. Halas won 324 games during his career including the playoffs.

The legendary quarterback was adamant about his feelings towards Belichick breaking the record and how he felt about his former coach.

Marino told Wolfe “I hope he don’t get it. I am a Dolphin for life. Coach Shula for life. I don’t want him to get it.” Marino expressed a fondness for Shula and what he meant to his career. “He was the best,” Marino told Wolfe. “He took care of me all the time. He was an incredible man and head coach. He taught me how to be in the community, be a leader, work hard.”

I don’t blame Marino for sticking up for his former coach. It is understandable. It is getting old however with all these former Dolphins bitching and moaning about the Patriots every time they get closer to breaking a Dolphin record.

The reaction is obnoxious and childish. You can cherish records and want to hold onto them but refusing to acknowledge greatness and openly rooting against another organization or coach is unprofessional and immature.

Marino has always worn his emotions on his sleeve and his affinity for his late coach is probably the main reason he feels this way. I am sure there is some animosity towards the Patriots however. After all, everyone around the league pretty much hates Belichick and the Patriots and wants to see them fail.

Marino’s comments shouldn’t surprise anyone. It is par for the course the last 21 years when it comes to the Patriots. It is why Patriots fans have adopted the moniker, they hate us cause they ain’t us.
