Commanders first possession

• Washington goes three and out after the big punt return by Gibson.

Patriots first possession

• Patriots using Demario Douglas as a decoy a bunch early on jet motion. Like we said in our game plan.
• Offensive line doing a good job in pass protection so far.
• Patriots spreading the ball around in the passing game so far. Stevenson, Henry, Thornton.
• Patriots go for it on 4th & 3 and Jones misses him wide open. Turn over on downs.

Commanders second possession: 1st & 10 at their own 39

• Howell is accurate and throws with good pop when he has time. Patriots have to bring pressure on passing downs.
• Commanders doing a great job of mixing up their play calling and keeping the Patriots defense off-balance.
• Washington picks up the first down. Patriots need to get off the field in those situations.
• Dumb call there by Bienemy. Why are you running stretch read there? Give up call.
• 37 YARD FIELD GOAL BY JOEY SLYE IS GOOD.

Commanders 3 Patriots 0: 3:14, 1st QTR

Patriots second possession: 1st & 10 at their own 25

• Three and out. A bad looking drive. Two incompletions and a throw into the dirt.

Commanders third possession: 1st & 10 at their own 20

• Patriots get inside pressure but Howell goes out the front door and hits Byron Pringle for a 26 yard play and a first down.
• Patriots bring a double dagger front side. Howell sees it, throws the hot. The Patriots need to get there when they blitz. Howell is tough and he is not afraid to get hit.
• Commanders pick up the first down on 3rd and 1.
• Patriots are coming after Howell, but again, not getting there.
• 9 YARD TOUCHDOWN ROBINSON. Literally untouched. Extra point is good. Bad start once again.

Patriots third possession. 1st & 10 at their own 25

• Another three and out. No ability to separate against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. Coming into the day, Washington was 29th against the pass.

Commanders fourth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 14

• Patriots finally get a break on the fumble by Robinson. See if they capitalize on.

Patriots fourth possession: 1st & 10 at the Commanders 25

• Might as well feed Zeke. He gives you a little more vertically.
• 14 YARD TOUCHDOWN PASS, JONES TO HENRY. Patriots needed that big time!

COMMANDERS 10 PATRIOTS 7: 9:26 2ND QTR

Commanders fifth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 17

• Howell is poised and under control in the pocket. Does a good job of hanging in and working his progression.
• Big stop there for the defense. They needed that. Now if the offense can built off the last possession, that would be ideal.

Patriots fifth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 16

• WOW! 20 yard pass play to open the series and then Stevenson goes 64 yards to the house!!!! The Patriots needed that!
• TOUCHDOWN! 64 YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN BY RHAMONDRE STEVENSON.

Patriots 14 Commanders 10: 6:06 2ND QTR

Commanders sixth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 20

• Defense needs another three and out here. Keep the momentum going.
• Patriots do a great job of sniffing out the double screen.
• No edge there. Howell got outside and made a great throw on the run for the first down.
• Secondary struggling to plaster, especially when Howell breaks contain. Need to stick down field!
• Penalties coming at an inopportune time. Need to play clean here. Can’t give up a score.
• HUGE SACK by Wise there! 13 yard loss.
• PISS POOR TACKLING! Plain and simple.
• And we just witnessed the best of Howell and the worst. Patriots will take it. Take the knee and go in!

HALFTIME: Patriots 14 Commanders 10- Both teams playing like their records. Entertaining half. Patriots started off slow but bounced back in the second quarter. Defense needs to be a little better. Offense needs points out of the opening drive of the half. Put the pressure squarely on Howell.

• Good start to this drive for the Patriots. Points are must on this drive.
• So we’re playing hoops now? That was a bad call. How is that roughing the passer?? Pats get a break.
• RYLAND 43 YARD FIELD GOAL.

Patriots 17 Commanders 10: 10:14 3rd QTR

Commanders seventh possession: 1st &10 at their own 25

• Washington on another drive here. Patriots defense truly bending today. Let’s see if they break.
• Beautiful ball there by Howell. Commanders ran double post and Dotson got behind Mills.
• TOUCHDOWN COMMANDERS! DOTSON 33 YARD TOUCHDOWN RECEPTION.

Patriots 17, Commanders 17: 6:51 3RD QTR

Patriots seventh possession: 1st & 10 at their own 25.

• Patriots need a response here. A good, long drive would help.
• Commanders show double A gap blitz, Jones opts for the hot now to Smith-Schuster. Wrong guy unfortunately.

Commanders eighth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 24

• They have dudes at receiver. The Patriots don’t. McLaurin has been quiet up until now. Not anymore.
• Patriots defense holds. Huge hold. Given the offensive struggles right now, they could not afford to fall behind further.
• SLYE 30 YARD FIELD GOAL.

Commanders 20 Patriots 17: 1:49 3RD QTR

Patriots eighth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 25

• Reagor has to make that play. Plain and simple!
• Bad OPI there. They need to be smarter than that!

END OF 3RD QUARTER: COMMANDERS 20 PATRIOTS 17

Commanders ninth possession: 1st & 10 at their 20

• Secondary continues to struggle.
• Got to get off the field here! Game on the line in many ways.
• BIG STOP!! Patriots needed that.

Patriots ninth possession: 1st & 10 at the five yard line

• Nice catch by Douglas. Makes up for the punt return indecision.
• Even better catch there for 22 yards. Douglas has been the primary target on this drive so far. Keep feeding him.
• Washington challenged the Douglas catch and it was overturned. Great challenge by the Commanders.
• HB Wheel to Stevenson broken up.
• Patriots punt.

Commanders tenth possession starts at 30

• Patriots defense holds but a personal foul on the return pushes the Patriots back.

Patriots tenth possession: 1st & 10 at their own 9

• How do they miss that face mask grab????? AWFUL!
• Meanwhile Reagor has no idea where he is going on these deep balls.
• Patriots punt. Offense has done nothing outside of the second quarter.

Commanders eleventh possession: 1st & 10 from their own 5

• Killer first down to give up there. Needed to get off the field and get good field possession for one  final drive.
• You can’t make this up. Costly penalty keeps the defense on the field.
• Patriots defense holds once again!

Patriots eleventh possession: 1st & 10 at their own 10

• Remember a field goal ties it so the Patriots don’t need to overthink this. Winning the game would be great but get into scoring position regardless.
• Shame because Smith-Schuster was finally getting targets. Tough way to lose. Patriots fall to 2-7 and hit the road for Germany next week.
