Patriots Coaching Staff Tracker

We tracking all of the Patriots coaching staff hires. So far, these are the coaches Mike Vrabel has officially and unofficially hired.

A star next to a coach’s name indicates that the team has not officially announced their hiring.

Head coach: Mike Vrabel

Offensive staff

Offensive coordinator: Josh McDaniels- McDaniels tenure in New England is well known as he has won six Super Bowls as an assistant and three Super Bowls as an offensive coordinator.

*Quarterbacks coach: Ashton Grant- Grant hasn’t been officially announced but the 28 year old spent the last five seasons with the Browns. The Connecticut native played his college football at Assumption and coached at Holy Cross.

*Running backs coach: Tony Dews-Vrabel gave Dews his break in the NFL. He has years of big time college football coaching experience. He was most recently with the Jets. Fun fact. Dews coached the defensive line at Holy Cross in 2003.

Wide receivers coach: — Todd Downing – Downing was Vrabel’s OC in 2021 and 2022 with the Titans and recently worked closely with Aaron Rodgers the last two years as the Jets’ passing game coordinator. He’s had stops with multiple organizations working in various offensive roles, including OC opportunities in Tennessee and Oakland.

Tight ends coach: Thomas Brown: Brown was the interim head coach of the Bears last season and has also coached with the Rams and Panthers. He has coordinator experience and he is well versed in the modern west coast offense which will be helpful when it comes to blending concepts with the offense Josh McDaniels will run.

*Offensive line coach: — Doug Marrone: Marrone has been a long time NFL and college offensive line coach. He was on the Boston College staff last season in an off the field role. Aside from Boston College, he does have experience coaching in the area. He was the offensive line coach at Northeastern in 1994. Marrone experience as a head coach, offensive coordinator and line coach will help the offensive staff immensely. Especially at a position where the Patriots have had a lot of turnover.

*Offensive assistant: Riley Larkin- Larkin was an offensive assistant at Ohio State this past season and played at John Carroll, the same school Josh McDaniels played at.

Defensive staff

Defensive coordinator: Terrell Williams- Williams has extensive NFL experience as a defensive line coach and now will get the opportunity to coordinate the defense for Mike Vrabel in New England. The two men are close and have a lot of respect for each.

*Defensive line coach: Clinton McMillan: McMillan worked for Vrabel in Tennessee during the 2021 season as a defensive assistant through the NFL’s Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship. He worked with both the outside linebacker and the defensive line where he worked closely with new Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams.

Linebackers coach: Milton Patterson: Patterson has a good mix of experience at the collegiate level and will not bring position coach experience to the linebacker job, but coordinator experience as well. Vrabel wants young, aggressive coaches who are good teachers defensively. He has a terrific coach in Patterson who profiles as a future coordinator.

Outside linebackers coach: Zak Kuhr: Kuhr is rumored to be joining the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He and Vrabel go back to their time together at Ohio State in 2011 and 2012 when Kuhr was an assistant. He was with the Giants last season.

Cornerbacks coach:

Safeties coach:

Special teams coordinator: Jeremy Springer- Retaining Springer was important. He did a great job with the Patriots special teams last season and brought a lot of energy and passion to the position, something that was lacking.
