While this is the quietest time of the year for the NFL, the Patriots still made a little bit of news on Tuesday afternoon.
The team officially announced the signing of a familiar face in tackle Yasir Durant.
Durant was a part of the Patriots back in 2021, appearing in seven games and starting in one of them. He’s played in just 19 games total since 2020, spending that year with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri. In 2022, Durant spent time with the New Orleans Saints. The last two years, he’s been in the UFL with the DC Defenders. Last season, he started every game at left tackle for the Defenders on their way to a title and he was named to the All-UFL team.
Durant is listed at 6’7,” 330lbs. and is most likely just a ‘camp body’ or a depth piece heading into training camp as one or two guys usually go down. But, there’s also a chance Mike Vrabel and the offensive staff want that familiarity with Durant, particularly Josh McDaniels who was obviously here during McDaniels’ final season in New England prior to this reunion.
The swing tackle spot is still very much a position that’ll be up in the air, which means Durant could potentially find himself on the roster if he ends up beating out some of the younger guys.
