The Patriots have signed former 2015 fourth round pick Trey Flowers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Flowers, a two-time Super Bowl champion spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Patriots before signing a five year, $90 million dollar deal with the Detroit Lions in 2019.
Flowers was released by the Lions last off-season and signed with the Miami Dolphins. Flowers only played in four games for the Dolphins before landing on injured reserve due to a foot injury.
The 6-2 265 pound Flowers is well versed in the Patriots multiple defense and could serve as a valuable back-up behind Deatrich Wise and rookie Keion White. Flowers turns 30 on August 16th.
Flowers worked out for the Patriots during the off-season and yesterday. After working him out, the team decided to take a flyer on him.
Despite his previous experience with the team. Flowers will have to earn a roster spot. There is no guarantee he makes the final 53.
The Patriots had an open spot. They didn’t need to make a roster move to add Flowers. Flowers could potentially make his debut on Thursday night against the Texans.
