Patriots: Body language is everything with a quarterback and Mac’s isn’t good right now

It is well documented that the Patriots offense is struggling right now, particularly the offensive line. It is also well documented that quarterback Mac Jones is frustrated and the reason we know that is his body language.

Jones has been more demonstrative in practices thus far this preseason than we saw in his rookie season. Last season he might occasionally throw his arms up after a bad play but it was nothing like this. Jones body language in camp has been awful.

When it comes to quarterbacks, body language matters. If your quarterback exhibits terrible body language, the entire teams sees it. The quarterback alienates himself by exhibiting bad body language and in turn, his teammates lose faith in him.

I get Jones is frustrated with the way things have gone in training camp thus far, but he has to keep his physical emotions in check. He has to be more positive and one of the best ways to do that is by not showing up his teammates and coaches with bad body language.

Jones has also been physically unhappy when he has met with the media after practice. It is not what he has been saying necessary, but you can tell by his demeanor that he is not happy. To his credit, Jones was better after he met with the media yesterday.

It is one thing to wear it on your sleeve as the quarterback. It’s o.k. You are the leader of the team. It’s not ok when you are constantly throwing up your arms up and mope. You do that enough times and eventually your teammates will lose respect for you.

Jones is well respected by his teammates. That is abundantly obvious. They see him as a leader. This is his team now. He is no longer competing against Cam Newton or the ghost of Tom Brady.

Since it is his team, Jones needs to start acting like it. He is in his second year. He is no longer the new guy. It is time to start acting like a veteran.
