According to NFL insider Jason LaCanfora, there is internal strife within the Browns organization regarding the first overall pick.
The front office and owner Jimmy Haslem want to draft a quarterback. Presumably that quarterback is Mitchell Trubisky. Conversely, head coach Hue Jackson and his staff want to draft Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett.
In the end, one has to assume that the Browns will ultimately draft Garrett with the first overall pick. If they don’t, then the Browns might as well close up shop and call it a day!
Garrett is a generational talent. Former Washington Redskins general manager Charley Casserley calls him the best defensive end prospect he has evaluated in the last 15 years. That is high praise coming from a well respected talent evaluator like Casserley.
Garrett is the real deal and if the Browns front office somehow finds a way to screw this up, they might want to skip town in the middle of the night because Browns fans will storm Berea, Ohio like it is the Bastille.
The Browns have accumulated 22 picks in the next two drafts. Now they need to use them and draft players. They must take the next step as an organization. The NFL is not a rebuilding league. The Browns can no longer rebuild. They need to get better. Progress must be made.
The entire football world will be watching on Thursday night. The Browns better do the right thing and draft Garrett or else all hell will break loose in Cleveland. If you think Jets and Eagles fans were vicious in the 90’s, you haven’t seen anything yet.
