Some thoughts on the week that was in the NFL.
1.Rob Gronkowski‘s belly flop on Tre’Davious White warranted a fine but not a suspension. That was an over the top reaction by the NFL. They listened to the national talking heads, especially the loud mouths at NBC.
2. John Mara and Steve Tisch caved to public pressure and that is why they fired Jerry Reese and Ben McAdoo.
3. The Redskins cost themselves a shot at making the playoffs by not showing up last Thursday night against the Cowboys.
4. The 49ers have their quarterback of the now and the future in Jimmy Garopollo. Invest in him, not Kirk Cousins.
5. I underestimated the Vikings. Going into Atlanta and winning is a big deal.
6. The Chiefs are a mess. I know Andy Reid got a contract extension and he is “untouchable” but if they don’t make the playoffs, you have to wonder if he keeps his job. The performance of the team falls on the head coach.
7. The Broncos have quit on Vance Joseph. He should be a one and done but you have to wonder if John Elway has the guts to give up on him after one season.
8. The Chargers are rolling but proclaiming them a “sleeper” Super Bowl contender in the AFC is a bit of a stretch.
9. Are the Eagles frauds? No. There is no shame in losing to the Seahawks in Seattle. If they lose to the Rams this week, then yes. They are.
10. The Steelers and Bengals once again brought out the worst in each other. Its football at it’s worst. My thoughts and prayers are with Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.
